How Rerose-ASC Plus works

This is a fixed-dose combination, and each component works on a different mechanism. Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme the liver uses to make cholesterol. As the liver's own supply falls it pulls more LDL cholesterol out of the blood to compensate, and it is that clearance which lowers the circulating level. Statins also stabilise the fatty plaque already sitting in artery walls, making it less likely to rupture, and that effect is separate from the cholesterol number. Rosuvastatin is the more potent of the two at equivalent doses and is less dependent on liver enzyme pathways, which reduces the scope for interaction with other medicines. Aspirin permanently inactivates cyclo-oxygenase-1 inside the platelet. A platelet has no nucleus and cannot make new enzyme, so once blocked it stays blocked for its whole lifespan of around a week. That is why a small daily dose is enough to keep clot formation suppressed. Clopidogrel blocks the P2Y12 receptor, which is a different route to platelet activation from the one aspirin blocks. That is precisely why the two are given together after a stent: two independent pathways are shut down, and the risk of the stent clotting off falls further than with either alone. Bringing them into one tablet means fewer tablets a day, which in a lifelong medicine is one of the strongest predictors of whether it actually gets taken.
