How Mithnix-Plus works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Permethrin holds open the sodium channels in the nerve cells of the scabies mite and of lice, so the nerve fires continuously until the parasite is paralysed and dies. Mammalian nerve cells break permethrin down rapidly and are barely affected, which is why it is the first-line scabies treatment including in young children and in pregnancy. Cetrimide carrs a positive charge that binds the negatively charged bacterial cell wall and breaks it open. The action is physical rather than metabolic, so bacteria have little scope to develop resistance to it, and it works on contact. Infected, inflamed skin rarely has a single cause, which is why these are formulated together rather than applied one after another.
