How Laxopress works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Lactulose and lactitol are sugars that pass undigested into the colon, where they draw water in and soften the stool so it moves without the cramping a stimulant causes. The same fermentation also acidifies the colon and traps ammonia there, which is why these agents are used in hepatic encephalopathy as well as in constipation. Ispaghula husk absorbs water and swells into a soft bulk that stretches the bowel wall and prompts it to move naturally. Liquid paraffin works differently again, coating the stool so it passes more easily. Neither irritates the bowel. Combining them means one preparation covers what would otherwise need two or three.
