How Arflex-R works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Proton pump inhibitors act on the very last step of acid production. The parietal cell in the stomach lining pumps acid out through the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme, and a PPI binds that pump irreversibly and shuts it down. Because it acts at the end of the chain rather than on one of the signals feeding into it, acid suppression is deeper and lasts longer than with earlier agents. Aceclofenac inhibits cyclo-oxygenase and reduces the prostaglandins that drive pain and inflammation. Because that same enzyme protects the gastric lining, a proton pump inhibitor is combined with it here so the stomach is covered during treatment. Combining them means one preparation covers what would otherwise need two or three.
