How Quitspas works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Diclofenac inhibits cyclo-oxygenase, reducing the prostaglandins that produce pain and inflammation. Drotaverine relaxs the smooth muscle of the uterus and gut. Period pain and abdominal colic are produced by that muscle contracting too hard, so relaxing it works on the mechanism of the pain rather than only on the sensation. Drotaverine relaxes smooth muscle by inhibiting phosphodiesterase-4 within the muscle cell rather than by blocking acetylcholine, so it does not cause the dry mouth and blurred vision anticholinergics do.
