How Etomight-MR works

This is a combination, and each component addresses a different part of the problem. Etodolac inhibits cyclo-oxygenase with a preference for COX-2 over COX-1, which is what gives it anti-inflammatory activity with relatively less effect on the enzyme that protects the gastric lining. The extended release form holds levels steady across the day. Centrally acting muscle relaxants work on the spinal cord and brainstem rather than on the muscle itself. They damp down the reflex loops that hold a muscle in spasm, so the muscle releases. This matters because in most back and neck pain the spasm is itself a source of pain, and treating the inflammation alone leaves that part untouched. Together in one tablet they cover more of what is actually causing the pain than any single agent would.
