How Mupirun-F works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Mupirocin blocks bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, an enzyme with no counterpart among the antibiotics given by mouth or injection. Because nothing else works this way, cross-resistance is rare, and it is kept deliberately for skin use -- particularly against Staphylococcus aureus, including MRSA. Fluticasone propionate is a topical corticosteroid of moderate potency. It binds the glucocorticoid receptor inside the skin cell and switches off the genes that produce inflammatory mediators, so redness, swelling and itch settle. Moderate potency suits eczema and dermatitis on ordinary skin, where a super-potent steroid would be more than the condition needs. Infected, inflamed skin rarely has a single cause, which is why these are formulated together rather than applied one after another.
