How Foliway-DHA works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Docosahexaenoic acid is a structural fat that makes up a large share of the developing brain and retina. The foetus draws it from the mother, and Indian diets are commonly low in it, which is why it is included in prenatal supplements. Methylcobalamin and pyridoxal-5-phosphate are supplied in their active forms alongside, so no conversion step is required. L-methylfolate is required for the neural tube to close properly in the first four weeks of pregnancy, often before a pregnancy is even confirmed, and for the DNA synthesis that rapid cell division demands. That timing is why supplementation is advised before conception rather than after. L-methylfolate is the already-active form. Ordinary folic acid has to be converted by the MTHFR enzyme, and a substantial proportion of people carry a variant that converts it poorly -- supplying the active form bypasses that step entirely.
