How Movilox works

Moxifloxacin blocks DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, the enzymes bacteria need to unwind and copy their DNA. Replication stops and the organism dies. Instilled directly into the eye, the drug reaches the cornea and conjunctiva at concentrations no tablet could produce there, while almost nothing enters the bloodstream. Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone, which means it acts on both bacterial enzymes at once rather than one. Resistance requires two separate mutations instead of one, so it develops far more slowly.
