How Migject-Plus works

This is a combination, and each component works through a different route. Flunarizine blocks calcium entry into the smooth muscle of cerebral blood vessels and into the vestibular system. It is a preventive rather than a treatment: taken daily it reduces how often migraines come and how severe they are, but it does nothing for an attack already under way. The same action on the inner ear is why it is also used in vertigo. Propranolol is a non-selective beta blocker, and it is one of the best-established migraine preventives -- probably by stabilising the vascular and neuronal excitability that starts an attack. It also blocks the physical side of anxiety: the racing heart, the tremor, the sweating. Because it works on the body rather than the mind, it is useful where those physical symptoms are what the person actually finds disabling. Attacking the same problem by two routes usually achieves more at lower doses of each than pushing one component higher.
