How Rerose-F Plus works

This is a fixed-dose combination, and each component works on a different mechanism. Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme the liver uses to make cholesterol. As the liver's own supply falls it pulls more LDL cholesterol out of the blood to compensate, and it is that clearance which lowers the circulating level. Statins also stabilise the fatty plaque already sitting in artery walls, making it less likely to rupture, and that effect is separate from the cholesterol number. Rosuvastatin is the more potent of the two at equivalent doses and is less dependent on liver enzyme pathways, which reduces the scope for interaction with other medicines. Fenofibrate activates PPAR-alpha, a nuclear receptor that switches on the genes controlling fat breakdown. Triglyceride-rich particles are cleared faster and HDL rises. Statins act mainly on LDL, so where triglycerides are the dominant abnormality a fibrate addresses what the statin leaves behind. Bringing them into one tablet means fewer tablets a day, which in a lifelong medicine is one of the strongest predictors of whether it actually gets taken.
