How Mighty-Liv Food works

This is a combination, and each component addresses a different part of the problem. Silymarin, extracted from milk thistle, works in two ways that are reasonably well demonstrated. It sits on the liver cell membrane and makes it harder for toxins to enter, and it acts as an antioxidant against the free radicals produced when the liver is under load. It also appears to support regeneration of liver tissue. The evidence is real but modest -- it is supportive care rather than a treatment for liver disease, and it is used alongside whatever the underlying condition requires. L-ornithine L-aspartate supplies the two amino acids the liver uses to convert ammonia into urea. Where liver function is impaired, ammonia accumulates and affects brain function, and providing these substrates supports the pathway that clears it. N-acetylcysteine supplies cysteine, the rate-limiting building block for glutathione. Rather than giving glutathione and hoping it survives digestion, this gives the liver the raw material to make its own -- which is why acetylcysteine, not glutathione, is what hospitals use in paracetamol poisoning. Essential phospholipids and choline are what liver cell membranes are built from, and choline is also required to move fat out of the liver -- without enough of it, fat accumulates there. That is the reasoning behind their use in fatty liver: supply the material for membrane repair and for exporting the fat that has collected. Levocarnitine carries fatty acids into the mitochondria to be burned for energy. In fatty liver that transport step is part of what has gone wrong, and supplying carnitine supports the liver's ability to use the fat rather than store it. Bringing them together means one preparation covers what would otherwise need several, which matters where treatment continues for months.
