How Amerin-LS 60 works

This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Levosalbutamol and Salbutamol stimulate beta-2 receptors on the smooth muscle wrapped around the airways. That muscle relaxes, the airway widens, and wheeze and breathlessness ease within minutes. Ambroxol thins thick mucus by breaking the bonds that hold it together, so what was sticky and hard to shift becomes loose enough to cough up. Ambroxol also stimulates the surfactant that keeps the smaller airways from collapsing. Guaiphenesin increases the volume of fluid in the airway secretions, which lowers their thickness. Less viscous mucus moves more easily on the cilia lining the airway and needs less effort to clear. Combining them means one preparation covers what would otherwise need two or three.
