How Intact works

Copper peptides are small chains of amino acids bound to copper, which the skin uses as a signal in its own repair process. They support collagen and elastin production and the remodelling that follows any injury to skin. Because they are signals rather than structural material, the quantities involved are very small. Ceramides make up around half the lipid holding the outermost skin cells together -- the mortar in the brick wall, in the usual analogy. When they are depleted, by soap, weather or age, that wall leaks: water escapes and irritants get in, which is what dry, sensitive, reactive skin actually is. Applying ceramides replaces the missing material rather than sitting on top of the problem. Glutathione applied to the skin acts as an antioxidant and interferes with tyrosinase, shifting melanin production toward the lighter pheomelanin rather than the darker eumelanin. Used topically its effect is gradual and confined to the area applied. It is worth being clear that the injectable use widely promoted in India for skin lightening is a different matter entirely -- that use is unapproved and CDSCO has warned against it. Putting them in one formulation means the routine stays short, which is the main reason people keep to it.
