How Frulas works
Furosemide blocks the sodium-potassium-chloride transporter in the loop of Henle, the part of the kidney that reclaims most of the filtered sodium. Blocking it there produces a large, rapid fluid loss. Given intravenously it works within minutes, which is what is needed in acute pulmonary oedema where the lungs are filling with fluid.
