This is a combination, and each component handles a different part of the problem. Luliconazole blocks the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, which the fungus needs to build ergosterol for its cell membrane. Without ergosterol the membrane becomes leaky and the cell cannot survive. Human cells use cholesterol instead of ergosterol, which is what keeps the action confined to the fungus. Luliconazole is the most potent of the topical azoles against dermatophytes, and it stays in the skin long enough that a short course is usually sufficient -- which matters in India, where repeated incomplete courses have driven widespread resistance in tinea. Salicylic acid loosens the bonds holding dead surface cells together, so thickened scale lifts away instead of building up. In a combination this also matters for the other ingredient: once the scale is gone, an antifungal or a steroid can actually reach the skin underneath rather than sitting on top of it. Infected, inflamed skin rarely has a single cause, which is why these are formulated together rather than applied one after another.
