A syrup is not simply a tablet in liquid form. The dose can be measured against a child's weight, which a fixed tablet strength cannot do; it is swallowed by a child who would refuse a tablet; and absorption begins sooner. Those are the reasons a paediatrician writes a syrup, and they are why this range exists as a segment of its own.
